In order to renew old forests, Estonian State Forest Management Centre (Riigimetsa Majandamise Keskus – RMK) will conducts a “renewal tree felling” on nearly 8,700 hectares this year which is 1% of RMK's forest land area and comparable to earlier years. In the middle of April, 2 months of felling "peace" starts in state forests to protect the nesting period of birds and animals.
The forest renewal takes place in spring but for the third year now, RMK plants forests in autumn too.
