On the night of 27 November, 19 activists from Friends of the Earth Netherlands, Flanders and Brussels illegally planted trees in Brussels at the Grand Place, Atomium and Manneken Pis. The action was to demonstrate the absurd contrast that trade in illegal timber on the EU market goes unpunished, whilst illegally planting trees is a punishable offence. The groups were demanding environmental legislation to require all timber and timber products on the EU market to come only from legal sources and responsibly managed forests.
